Time:10:49 am.

The Dean bought us a 12 ft. Christmas tree and the Peer Guides are going to be performing a brand new composition, the 12 tones of Christmas.

I get excited for this like I used to get excited for Christmas as a little kid. Except now I add Baileys to my hot chocolate.

Why? Why always at the end is there a beginning?

I don't exactly have the best track record with relationships. I don't think it's that I'm toxic, or that I'm a robot; I think it is because sometimes I choose the wrong people, and sometimes I choose something other than a relationship.

But this...

Subject:Funniest skit ever...
Time:10:49 am.
(To the tune of Summer Nights)

Bible stories are from the past

Bible stories, mine will outlast

Son of Pharoh, got there by luck,

Son of god, take that you schmuck.

Bible days have showed us the way, but oh, my dogma was right.

Jahova hova hova…
Tell me more, tell me more
Hebrew 1: Can I mix milk and meat?
Tell me more, tell me more
Hebrew 2: I hate my wife, can I cheat?

We were trapped, so I split the sea

I walked on water and cured leprosy

Next you’ll claim that you raised the dead

There was no bush, it’s in your head

Bible days, your light’s not the way, but oh, it’s my dogma that’s right

Tell me more, tell me more… do I have to get snipped?

Tell me more, tell me more…did it suck to get whipped?

Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, yeah…uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, yeah

I’m badass, I brought blood and hail

I made tons of bread-

Yeah, I heard it was stale…
I brought commandments down from the mount

You took a ski lift, so it doesn’t count

Bible days, we’re stuck in our ways, but oh, it’s my dogma that’s right

I’ll bring you good health and good luck,

Moses (to the Jews)
For two thousand years, we’re gonna be fucked
You’ll have bar mitzvahs at age thirteen

She was good, yeah Ms. Magdelene,

Bible days, they weren’t here to stay, but uh, oh my dogma was right

Whoa, whoa, whoa…

Tell me more, tell me more…let’s make plans to expand

Tell me more, tell me more…you’ve still got blood on your hand.

I got older, and found holy land

The nails really weren’t part of the plan

I died leader of the Hebrews

I died cuz of Romans and Jews

Bible days, showed us the way, but oh, my dogma was riiiiiight.

Time:9:59 pm.
Jed is visiting for Reading Week- so far, so good. I've made him watch Gilmore Girls and Little Miss Sunshine, he bought me pizza, and I gave him a tour of the campus.

I got my haircut today- why is it that I never get a good haircut??? I'm either going to go back to the girl and just have her change it a little so it isn't so boxy, or I'm going to get a super short cut.

.... I just wish my hair was long again.

Subject:I don't care- I like Valentine's Day. I find it pleasant.
Time:10:21 pm.
I had my studio recital tonight. This recital was a big deal for me- the one in first semester I completely bombed and I also had some crazy performance anxiety. But this, this was amazing. I sang three times, and each got better and better.

I started in the first number, but I was only in a chorus, so it's not so bad. But it went really well, and I hammed it up with everyone, and we got alot of laughs. My next piece was Poor Wandring One, which is really hard. It is high all the time, it has runs, and pages of stacattos, and ends on a high Eflat- but it went really well. Not as good as it had been in some rehearsals, but definately a close to a 9 out of 10 being my very best performance. And then I finished with the Lakme duet with Rachel, which was beautiful, and also a 9 out of 10.

Then afterwards, I left the green room and saw all my friends who had come. It was nice to have people there. Nothing is sadder than leaving a concert where you have put all you've got on the line, and then walk out to no one. No one even noticing you. But this, this was nice.

I love today, and today is Valentine's day.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Edit: Also, Eric? or Kristen?

Subject:Tuba Christmas
Time:10:52 pm.
(I choose not to think about 18th century opera reforms any more tonight!)

This past Wednesday held an age old tradition for the music faculty at Western- Tuba Christmas. It is, essentially what it sounds like. The tuba and euphonium studio get together, put on Santa hats, and everyone gathers in the music building lobby as the tubas lead us through Christmas carols (as well as a few Hannukah hits for those who Christmas is not applicable- dreidel, dreidel anyone?).

But what is most important about this event is not the tubas, or that this event marks the end of classes, or the fact that the head of the Theory dept. dresses up like Scrooge, gets hammered and plays jazzy carols on the piano, and not even that even the bitchy super sopranos seem to be having a good time. It is because for one afternoon of the year, I am reminded why I went so far from home.

I'm not always proud of being a music student, and I am rarely proud of associating myself with a university where a large part of the student population are ugg wearing snobs from private schools in the GTA. But at Tuba Christmas, where I am surrounded with people who also hate the ugg and sunglasses in the dark wearing trust fund kids, and Aaron James is standing beside me singing notes that are way to high for a male voice, and the faculty's diva in residence is dressed up as Mrs. Claus and ends her gospel version of 'Go Tell it on the Mountain' with the warm words, "That's the Christmas Spirit, bitches! Merry f*cking Christmas!"- I don't know exactly... but it makes me glad that I made it here.

Subject:SNOWED IN!!!
Time:10:48 am.
This is basically, awesome. Kind of.

London is experiencing mad snow. It only started snowing three days ago, and now the snow is waist deep- and it's still falling! The weather network catagorizes this a a snowsquall.

The bad news is that because of the snow, and because of a heating failure at the university, exams have been cancelled for today. I'm really hoping that my exams won't be affected, I don't have them until the 12th, but it could turn out very badly.

My immeadiate plan is to do nothing. I had things going on today, but they've all been cancelled, so I'm going to stay home and bake cookies and start studying.

Oh- side note. Last night my studio sang for an old folks wing at a local hospital. I sang a song about lovers, and I guess that was really controversial because two ladies at the back trashtalked me the whole song. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

Subject:This week kicked my ass!
Time:5:43 pm.
My midterms are over!! I felt well prepared for both of them, and since I work on a treat system I headed downtown after my music history midterm to buy two treats!
A brief interuption to the main plot, however; on the bus downtown there was a lady talking aloud to nobody in particular, but she was telling stories about people she must have known. For example, "Well Jeanie was raising those two girls all on her own, well, until she met Rick. And then there was Laine. She was really something" etc.. None of the stories seemed to connect really well, but in the middle of one such biography, she said "only schizophrenics tell the truth" and then moved on with the story. It was a little disconcerting. There were also female Mormon missionaries on the bus, ones that I had met before, and they made me think of Phil and Russell.
ANYWAY, back to the main story: I went to a music shop to buy the piano music for Charlie Brown Christmas, but had to order it, because they didn't have it in stock. Then I went to Grooves to buy the Sufjan Stevens Christmas EPs, but they haven't been released yet. So instead of having treats, I had no treats, which completely ruins my treat system. But I'm going to see Wicked tomorrow, so that will hopefully satisfy my reward requirement.

I haven't practiced yet today..... bleh.

I have a date for Friday night, but... I don't know his name.

We were in the same flute class, and we talked all the time, but I forgot his name, and since we only talked about flute twice a week, it didn't matter.. now, it's just rude not to know it.

He is a low brass player who likes the Leafs and that is all I know.

Subject:Recital Woes...
Time:10:14 pm.
I had my first voice recital of the year tonight- it went ok. My mom was here, so it was exciting, but my performance was mediocre.
I'm a little frustrated because I sang my piece so well only yesterday at my lesson, but I let nerves get out of control tonight, and my breathing got shallow and I wasn't focusing on the things I needed to, I was only thinking 'doubtful thoughts'.

So basically.. I'm frustrated with myself, but also, it was not all bad. By the second half of the piece I had things more under control, and my sound was good.

I need to approach performances with the mindset of an athlete- I think it really would help to focus on the "goal", and visualizing "the score". That's my new plan.

I had a steak dinner tonight- iron is delicious.

Time:11:38 pm.
My mom and her best friend (who is basically my second mom) are visiting! I'm super excited because it is good to see someone from home, plus it is just nice to see my mom.

HOWEVER... I have to tell my mom that Chris and I broke up. That will be harder than telling normal people because I can't guage what her reaction is going to be.

Subject:Can I ask a favour?
Time:6:35 pm.
I enlist your powers of creativity in naming my apartment. It feels strange to both Kati (my room-mate) and I to call it home, so we are searching for a suitable name for our place of residence

So far our only contender is "the nook" and some other French names (Kati is French).

At any rate, any suggestions are glady welcome! (help!)
